I’m a sophomore in Biological Engineering at the University of Idaho. I decided to look into research opportunities for this upcoming year so I could get more experience in the lab and see what sort of research is happening on campus. I saw Dr. Luckhart’s lab posting on the Office of Undergraduate Research site and her work really intrigued me.
I spent 3 years living on a mine site in Tanzania, Africa when I was younger and for those three years, malaria was a huge part of my life. I took Malarone pills when my family lived there and I had to sleep under a mosquito net; I didn’t like it very much, but my parents told me it was a special net and then I loved it. Despite these precautions, my older sister still got malaria. Due to my experiences with malaria and malaria prevention measures, I’m excited to learn more about the work that’s being done in this field.
